Heavenly Stems — The Energy of Heaven
There are 10 Heavenly Stems: Gab (甲), Eul (乙), Byeong (丙), Jeong (丁), Mu (戊), Gi (己), Gyeong (庚), Sin (辛), Im (壬), and Gye (癸). Each is assigned to one of the Five Elements and to either Yin or Yang. Gab and Eul belong to Wood; Byeong and Jeong to Fire; Mu and Gi to Earth; Gyeong and Sin to Metal; and Im and Gye to Water.
Earthly Branches — The Energy of Earth
There are 12 Earthly Branches — Ja (子), Chuk (丑), In (寅), Myo (卯), Jin (辰), Sa (巳), O (午), Mi (未), Sin (申), Yu (酉), Sul (戌), and Hae (亥) — each corresponding to one of the 12 zodiac animals. Each branch is also assigned to a Five Element and represents the cyclical movement of seasons and time.
Ten Gods — The Energy of Relationships
The Ten Gods represent 10 types of energy that describe the relationships between your Day Master (일간) and all other elements. They are categorized as: Parallel (same element), Expression (elements you generate), Wealth (elements you control), Authority (elements that control you), and Resource (elements that generate you) — each split into a direct and indirect form.
Spirit Stars — Special Energies
Spirit Stars are auspicious or inauspicious energies with special effects in your Four Pillars. The Heavenly Noble Star (天乙貴人) indicates help from a benefactor in times of difficulty; the Traveling Horse Star (驛馬煞) signifies movement and change; the Peach Blossom Star (桃花煞) represents romantic connections. Spirit Stars should never be interpreted in isolation — they must always be read within the full context of the chart.
Major and Annual Fortune Cycles
The Major Fortune (大運) is the overarching flow of luck that shifts every 10 years, while the Annual Fortune (歲運) changes each year. Even people with the same Four Pillars will experience fortune differently depending on which Major and Annual Fortune cycles they are currently in. AI interpretations take both cycles into account to analyze fortune as it applies right now.
